SIDE-EVENT ON TRAFFICKING OF NON-CITES LISTED SPECIES AT THE UN COMMISSION ON CRIME PREVENTION AND CRIMINAL JUSTICE

On 23 May 2025, ICEL hosted a side-event at the 34th Session of the UN Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice (CCPCJ), the principal policymaking body of the United Nations in the field of crime prevention and criminal justice.

The event, titled “Closing the Gap: Addressing Wildlife Trafficking of Non-CITES Listed Species” was supported by the Government of Brazil, and sponsored by the Global Initiative to End Wildlife Crime, Born Free Foundation, Freeland Foundation, and Wildlife Justice Commission.
The event brought together experts to discuss legal loopholes that facilitate the trade of illegally sourced wildlife, its impacts and possible solutions, including a potential protocol to the UNTOC on crimes that affect the environment, including wildlife trafficking.
