On 5 June 2025 for UN World Environment Day, ICEL hosted an official side-event at the 3rd UN Ocean Conference, on “Addressing marine wildlife trafficking to protect our oceans”.

Together with the Global Initiative to End Wildlife Crime, ICEL also issued a joint statement as a follow-up to the side-event, calling for marine wildlife trafficking to form part of the conference agenda and further intergovernmental discussions, along with other technical recommendations from the expert panelists.
