Announcement – Search for ICEL Executive President
The International Council of Environmental Law (ICEL) has established a Process and Search Committee to recommend suitable candidate/s to the Board of Governors for the next Executive President of ICEL. The aim is to select a successor Executive President as soon as possible, before the end of December 2024.
Job Description: The position is a voluntary one in which the individual serves without a salary.
The Executive President:
- guides the program and work of ICEL;
- recruits and coordinates the work of various ICEL Representatives to the United Nations and other international organizations;
- oversees the work of the Chief Administrative Officer;
- is responsible for relations with the host of the ICEL Secretariat at the Universidad Carlos III de Madrid; and
- directs the implementation of the decisions of the ICEL Board of Governors.
Requirements: Candidates for the post of Executive President should:
- have substantial experience in environmental law;
- have available time for the full discharge of the Executive President’s duties;
- be available to undertake this senior voluntary position for a period of 5 years;
- have an adequate base of operations which can contribute to sustaining the individual’s work as Executive President;
- have utmost integrity to avoid any conflict of interest; and
- have the ability to work in English.
Responsibilities: Under ICEL Statutes, Article 13, the Executive President shall have the following responsibilities:
- Represent ICEL in any legal matter before public or private entities;
- Order payments and authorize with his/her signature all documents and correspondence;
- Adopt any urgent matter required for the adequate operation of ICEL or its activities, notwithstanding the requirement to provide an account to the Board of Governors.
